New York: Health experts are warning that this year's flu season could be very serious. A new strain called 'H3N2' is currently spreading rapidly. More than 4.6 million cases have been reported in the United States alone.
This flu season is no joke. We are seeing more cases than we would expect at this time of year,' said Dr. Amanda Kravitz, a pediatrician at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York.
The main symptoms are a high fever (103-104 degrees), body aches, and cough. Vomiting is also seen in children. This strain, which spreads faster than the regular flu, is more likely to affect the elderly and children.
Getting vaccinated can help prevent the disease from becoming serious. Doctors recommend getting it for safety, although the effectiveness of the vaccine may decrease.
It is most effective to seek treatment within the first two days of symptoms. Preventive measures include washing hands thoroughly and being careful in crowded places.
