New York: Christmas and New Year travel is being disrupted due to the 'Devin' cold snap hitting the US. More than 1,500 flights were canceled on Friday alone due to heavy snowfall. About 6,800 flights are running late.

New York's JFK, Newark and LaGuardia airports were the worst affected by the adverse weather. Major companies like Jet Blue, Delta and American Airlines have all cut services.

More than 40 million Americans are under a snow warning. Extreme caution has been declared in the Midwest and Northeast. The heaviest snowfall in the last four years (up to 10 inches) is expected in New York City.

Heavy rains are expected to cause flooding and landslides on the West Coast, including in California. Firefighters rescued more than 100 people stranded by flooding in Los Angeles.

The National Weather Service has warned that temperatures will drop further in the coming days as cold Arctic winds from Canada arrive.
