Chinese app called Are you dead? goes viral

A safety app called Are you dead? is going viral in China. The app, called Sileme in Chinese, was launched in May last year with the aim of ensuring the well-being of those living alone. Sileme means Are you dead.

But its mode of operation has gained immense popularity among the Chinese people. With this, it has become the most downloaded paid app in the country.

Users of this app must tap on a large green button in the app every 48 hours. If the button is not pressed during this time, an automatic notification will be sent to emergency contact numbers informing the user that they are in danger.

The app is listed as Demumu outside China. Initially free, this app is now charged around Rs. 99.
