Austin: Governor Greg Abbott has declared a state of emergency following warnings of severe cold and snow in most parts of the state of Texas. The extreme cold is expected to begin from Thursday.

The winter will hit the north and northwest Texas regions the most. Its effects will start to be felt in southeast Texas by Saturday.

The governor has instructed the Texas Division of Emergency Management and the National Guard to be ready. Safety measures are being taken in coordination with various departments including transportation, health, and public works.

To the public: The governor urged them to check road conditions through 'DriveTexas.org' before traveling and to take advantage of the warming centers set up by the government to combat the cold.

ERCOT has assured that there will be no disruption in power supply.
