London, ON — January 20, 2026
The Centre for Canadian Malayali Affairs (CCMA), representing members of the Malayali community across Canada, strongly condemns the targeted, racially motivated assault that occurred on January 18, 2026, at Victoria Park in London, Ontario.
This unprovoked incident, which resulted in serious physical injuries and lasting psychological trauma to community members, raises serious concerns about public safety, racism, and the protection of minority communities in Canada.
A Matter of Broader Public Concern
While this incident occurred in London, its impact extends beyond one city. When individuals are subjected to violence in a public space based on race or identity, it undermines the core Canadian principles of safety, dignity, and inclusion.
The CCMA emphasizes that the right to live free from fear and discrimination is a fundamental right guaranteed to all Canadians and residents.
Call for Accountability and Action
The CCMA calls on all levels of government and relevant authorities to take coordinated and decisive action, including:
• Federal and Provincial Leadership: Members of Parliament and Members of Provincial Parliament are urged to recognize the seriousness of hate-motivated violence and support effective measures that strengthen prevention, accountability, and community protection.
• Municipal Leadership and Law Enforcement: The Mayor of London, City Councillors, municipal authorities, and law enforcement are urged to ensure a thorough investigation, appropriate accountability, and visible actions that reinforce public confidence in public safety and the rule of law.
• Community Responsibility: All Canadians are encouraged to reject hate and intolerance in all forms. Addressing racism requires leadership, vigilance, and collective responsibility.
Standing in Solidarity
The CCMA stands in full solidarity with the victims and affected families. As a national community organization, we remain committed to advocating for the safety, dignity, and rights of Malayali Canadians, and to working constructively with governments, institutions, and community partners to promote inclusion and justice.
