Global e-commerce giant Amazon is cutting 16,000 more jobs from its corporate division, the company said on Monday. This is the second major layoff in three months. It had cut 14,000 jobs in October, bringing the total number of layoffs to nearly 30,000.

Amazon Senior Vice President Beth Galetti said the move was a response to overstaffing during the COVID-19 pandemic and to streamline operations by eliminating administrative complexity at the company.
The move will affect Amazon Web Services (AWS), retail and human resources. The move came after employees were sent an email about the plan, dubbed "Project Dawn," in error.

The company said it will give 90 days to lay off US-based employees to find new positions, and will provide benefits including insurance to those who are not. Experts believe that this restructuring is also part of its increased investment in the field of artificial intelligence.
