Atlanta: A police officer was killed in the line of duty in Gwinnett County, Georgia, USA. Pradeep Tamang (25) was killed. Another officer, David Reed, who was with him, was shot but survived, authorities said.
The incident occurred at around 7:30 a.m. Sunday at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Stone Mountain, Gwinnett County. Officers arrived at the hotel to investigate a credit card fraud complaint.
The shooter was identified as 35-year-old Kevin Andrews. The suspect was shot and wounded by police and is currently in custody. The suspect invited police officers into the hotel room and, while they were talking, suddenly pulled out a handgun and opened fire, the police chief said. Pradeep Tamang joined the Gwinnett County Police Department last year.
Born in Bhutan, Pradeep's family immigrated to the United States ten years ago and has lived there for years. He was engaged.
