Bangladesh holds general elections amid tight security

 

 

Bangladesh's first general election since Sheikh Hasina's government was ousted by mass protests in 2024 is being held on Thursday. 129 million voters will go to the polls to elect members of parliament. 1,981 candidates from more than 50 parties are running. Hasina's Awami League is not in the fray as it is barred from the election.
