New York: Although a settlement has been reached in the month-long nurses' strike in New York's two major hospital chains, nurses at New York-Presbyterian Hospital have decided to continue the strike. This comes after the hospital authorities voted to reject the new contract proposed by the hospital authorities.

About ten thousand nurses at Mount Sinai and Montefiore hospitals have accepted the new contract. They will return to work in the coming days.

About 4,200 nurses at New York-Presbyterian voted against the contract. Their decision was cited as not hiring enough staff and workload.

Although the leadership of the nurses' union, NYSNA, had proposed accepting the contract, the local committee of nurses opposed it. They are demanding more guarantees for the welfare of nurses.

The strike, which has been going on for four weeks in bitter cold, is one of the longest nursing strikes in New York City history. The main reason for the strike was the disruption of patient care due to staff shortages.
