Tamil poet R Vairamuthu wins Jnanpith award

 

 

Tamil poet R. Vairamuthu has won the Jnanpith award for 2025. He is a lyricist and novelist. The award is in recognition of his comprehensive contributions to literature. Vairamuthu is the third person from Tamil to receive the Jnanpith award.

Vairamuthu started writing poems from the age of ten. He was known as a lecturer and poet during his school days. Vairamuthu has written 37 books, including poetry collections and novels. Many of them have been translated into languages such as English, Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada.
