Kerala has seen heavy electricity consumption in recent times. According to the figures for the past week, the evening (peak time) electricity consumption in Kerala has crossed 5000 MW. The consumption during these days is 101 million units. The demand for electricity has increased due to severe heat and increased use of induction cookers due to gas shortage. A huge increase was recorded on March 12. On that day, the load reached 5352 MW. 102 million units of electricity were used.

If the severe heat and gas shortage continue, the consumption will cross 5700 MW this time. Load shedding will be required, it is reported. The highest electricity consumption in Kerala was recorded on May 2, 2024, at 5797 MW.
