New York: The political battle between New York City Mayor Sohran Mamdani and City Council Speaker Julie Menin is heading towards a governance crisis. As the first 100 days of their mayoral term are over, the differences between these two prominent leaders of the Democratic Party have become public.

Speaker Julie Menin has sharply criticized the mayor's new economic policies, his move to increase property taxes, and changes made to the racial equity report.

The speaker was accused of involvement in a protest outside the mayor's 100th day speech in Queens last Sunday. The protest was related to a pay increase for teachers' aides.

There is a strong disagreement between the two over how to close the city's $5.4 billion budget deficit.

The Speaker's opposition to Mayor Mamdani, from the Democratic Socialist faction, poses a major challenge to the administration.

The official response of both parties is that differences of opinion are natural and that they will work together for the development of the city. However, there is a strong concern that this conflict, which arose at the very beginning of the administration, will lead to a stalemate in the coming years.
