Ebola outbreak in Congo; Death toll rises to 80

 

 

The Democratic Republic of Congo's health ministry said 80 people have died from Ebola in the eastern Iduri province. Health Minister Samuel Roger Kamba Mulamba said eight cases of the rare variant of the Ebola virus, Bundibugyo, had been confirmed.

The first confirmed case is believed to be a nurse who died at the Evangelical Medical Center in Bunia. The nurse was admitted to the medical center with symptoms including fever, bleeding, vomiting and severe fatigue. The DR Congo government said it had taken measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
