NEW YORK (New Jersey): For the second consecutive night, violent clashes broke out between protesters and New Jersey State Police outside the Delaney Hall Immigration Detention Center. Police fired tear gas at the protesters who broke through the barricades.
There were large protests on Saturday between anti-immigration groups and supporters against the poor conditions inside the detention center. Then, by nightfall, the situation got out of control. In the wake of the arrest of some people with weapons, a nighttime curfew (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.) was declared in a half-mile radius around the detention center in the interests of public safety.
New York Mayor Ras J. Baraka. The mayor issued this strict order late Saturday night. The governor has asked people to protest peacefully.
