India has developed the first indigenous human papillomavirus test for cervical cancer. Experts hope that this will make the test more affordable and accessible to women in rural areas.
The test, called Truenat HPV-HR Plus, was developed by Goa-based Molbio Diagnostics. Experts say that this test can detect several high-risk HPV types.
Imported HPV tests are often expensive and not available in rural areas. In such situations, the indigenous test is expected to be beneficial.
