A British Airways plane has landed safely after a mobile phone caught fire on board. A mobile phone caught fire on board a British Airways flight from London to Las Vegas, USA. However, a major accident was averted due to the timely intervention of the flight crew and the plane landed safely. The incident took place on Monday. The American Civil Aviation Administration (FAA) has confirmed the incident and announced an investigation.

The incident took place on British Airways flight 271. The pilot had informed air traffic control that a fire from a mobile phone had caused minor damage to the interior of the plane. However, the flight crew immediately extinguished the fire. The plane then landed safely at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas at around 2:30 pm local time. British Airways stated that passengers and crew were safely evacuated from the plane and that safety is always their priority.

The FAA has once again warned passengers to always carry mobile phones, laptops, power banks and vape devices that use lithium batteries in their carry-on luggage. The rule is so that crews can quickly intervene if such devices catch fire on board the plane. Last year alone, 82 fires involving lithium batteries were reported on planes.
