Washington / Tehran: The United States has launched a strong military operation in response to Iran's attacks on commercial ships near the Strait of Hormuz. US Central Command attacked more than 80 sites, including Iranian air defense systems, command networks, coastal radars, and small boats of the Revolutionary Guard. The United States has also reimposed strict sanctions on Iran's oil sales.

The attack came as a summit of NATO leaders, including Trump, was being held in neighboring Turkey. Massive explosions have been reported in major Iranian oil export centers such as Bandar Abbas, Sirik, and Kharg Island.

The Iranian military warned that it would respond to the US attack in strong language. Iran, which stated that it would not allow anyone to interfere in the control of the Strait of Hormuz, accused the US of violating a temporary ceasefire agreement between the two countries.

Following Iran's threat of retaliation, air defenses were activated in Kuwait and Bahrain, which have US military bases in the Middle East. Authorities have advised people to move to safer places due to the possibility of missile and drone attacks.

Some allied countries in the region are holding talks with the US and Iran to prevent the situation from worsening and maintain the ceasefire.
