Environment and Climate Change Canada has released its August weather forecast for Alberta. The forecast calls for hot and dry weather in Calgary and heavy rain in Edmonton.

Southern Alberta and Calgary are expected to see warmer temperatures and less rain than usual. Temperatures, which peaked at 25 degrees Celsius in early August, could drop to 23 degrees by the end of the month.

Meanwhile, Edmonton will continue to experience cold and heavy rain. Edmonton received 533.8 mm of rain in June and July alone. This broke the record of 417 mm set in 1953. The increased flooding in the area is increasing the risk of thunderstorms and storms, said meteorologist Brian Proctor. Areas north of Red Deer will experience cooler weather than usual.
