Rogers services disrupted in Calgary after fiber cable cut

 

 

Rogers telecom services were severely disrupted in the city of Calgary after a major fiber optic cable was cut. Company officials said it was an attempt to steal the cable. The Canadian police have opened a case and have launched an investigation into the incident.

The cut cable was discovered on Earlton Street at around 6:20 a.m. Monday. Internet, TV and landline services were then completely disrupted in many homes and businesses in the southwest and southeast Calgary areas. The incident, which even affected emergency communication systems, caused great distress to the people.

Rogers technicians and emergency services teams immediately arrived at the scene and began repairs. Rogers officials said that the disrupted services would be fully restored by 10 p.m. Monday. Calgary police have intensified their investigation into the incident. No information about the perpetrators is yet available. Authorities have requested that anyone with any information regarding the destruction of cables to immediately report it to the police.
