Engine part collapses, shatters plane window: Passenger miraculously survives

 

 

A fellow passenger saved a passenger who tried to jump out of a plane window after it broke in mid-air. Last month, a Ryanair flight from Greece suffered an engine failure and the window shattered. The passenger was rescued by a fellow passenger when he tried to fall out due to a change in air pressure. A major tragedy was averted thanks to the timely intervention of the fellow passenger. This incident has been confirmed by American investigators.

According to the preliminary investigation report released by the American National Transportation Safety Board, the accident was caused by the separation of a fan blade on the right engine of the Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Metal fragments that flew out of the engine at high speed hit the fuselage and windows of the aircraft. The investigation team assessed that bird remains were found inside the engine and that a bird hit the blade shortly after takeoff may have caused the blade to break.
In accordance with international aviation rules, the Greek government has handed over a detailed investigation into the accident to the American agency NTSB. The 61-year-old passenger, who was seriously injured in the accident, was given first aid with the help of a doctor on board and evacuated to a safe place. The plane made an emergency landing at Thessaloniki Airport in Greece due to a drop in air pressure.
