Twenty-five people died in a massive fire aboard a foreign cargo ship docked for maintenance at the port of Qingdao, a major shipping hub in eastern China. There were 42 people on board when the fire broke out. Five people were injured in the incident, while 17 were safely evacuated. Eyewitnesses reported seeing thick black smoke rising from the vessel but did not hear any sounds of an explosion.
The accident occurred on the *Ocean Melody*, a Liberia-flagged bulk carrier.
