Washington: Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has issued a warning regarding the rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. She stated that the technology could potentially spiral beyond human control.
Harris urged Congress to establish a new federal agency dedicated to examining and monitoring advanced AI systems.
She also called upon President Donald Trump to collaborate with nations, including China, to implement global standards and international agreements ensuring safety.
Harris's remarks follow a call by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei to slow down the development of cutting-edge AI models—a stance also supported by OpenAI chief Sam Altman and Elon Musk.
However, President Donald Trump dismissed AI safety concerns as "hype" and opposed slowing down development, arguing that doing so would give China a competitive advantage.
Harris added that safety precautions must be implemented without sacrificing the advancements made in the field of medicine.
