A new digital app has been launched that allows tenants to earn cashback on their monthly rent payments and use the accumulated funds for a down payment on a future home purchase. Introduced by 'Zone,' a prominent Toronto-based real estate company, the app operates beyond the traditional landlord-tenant relationship. This system is seen as a significant boost for young people struggling to buy homes due to soaring rents and rising real estate prices across the country.

Under the app's scheme, eligible tenants can earn cashback rewards of up to eight percent of their monthly rent. For instance, someone paying 2,000 Canadian dollars in monthly rent could save 160 dollars a month, amounting to approximately 1,920 dollars annually. Rishard Ramis, the company's CEO, explains that by the end of a five-year rental period, a tenant could have set aside around 9,600 dollars for a home purchase.

Customers cannot withdraw this amount directly; instead, the funds are transferred to a legal trust account on the closing day of the home purchase transaction. This initiative offers new hope to the younger generation in Canada's major cities who might otherwise have to abandon their dream of owning a home. The company is moving forward with the aim of helping around 10,000 young people purchase their own homes by 2028.
