Powerful twin earthquakes have struck Panama, registering magnitudes of 7.7 and 6.6 on the Richter scale. Numerous buildings collapsed across the two quakes, which occurred with an interval of two and a half hours. The epicenters were located near towns along Panama's Pacific coast.

Reports indicate that 4.6 million people were directly affected by the earthquakes. The epicenter of the first quake was 10 kilometers from the town of Pitalosa Arriba. Following the tremors, many people were evacuated from buildings in Panama City, located 200 kilometers away.
