Philadelphia: A police officer was killed in a brutal attack in Philadelphia over the weekend. The incident occurred early Saturday morning in West Philadelphia. The victim, 40-year-old Shane Seiber of the Philadelphia Police Department, was a father of two young children.

Seiber and a colleague had arrived at the scene following a report of an armed individual standing on a porch in West Philadelphia. Upon entering the premises shortly after midnight, the officers were caught in an unexpected ambush. Seiber, who was shot three times, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital in the presence of his wife and family; he is survived by a 3-year-old daughter and a 7-year-old son.

Seiber's colleague—a father of five—was shot 12 times during the incident. Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel stated at a press conference that while the officer is no longer in critical condition, he is not yet fully out of danger. Bethel described the killing as a brutal, senseless, and horrific act.

The suspect, who attempted to flee to a hideout after the attack, also opened fire on nine other police officers who had arrived at the scene. Fortunately, no one was injured. Following a search that lasted several hours, the police apprehended 35-year-old Eric Lewis, who was hiding in a tree. District Attorney Larry Krasner announced that the accused faces approximately 80 charges, including murder and ten counts of attempted murder.
