During an election rally in Michigan, US President Donald Trump stated that trade disputes with Canada would be resolved soon. He alleged that Canada has been exploiting the US in trade, which necessitated the imposition of high tariffs. Meanwhile, amidst these trade tensions with the United States, Canada is making concerted efforts to strengthen its ties with the European Union.

At the Michigan rally, Trump claimed that the trade dispute with Canada would be settled before long, adding that Canada is currently prepared to make any necessary concessions. Nevertheless, Canada's new tariff policy has caused significant concern within the automotive manufacturing sector in Michigan.

Following the emergence of rifts in its relationship with the US, Canada is holding a summit in Montreal to deepen its ties with the European Union. The meeting aims to enhance mutual cooperation in sectors such as defense, artificial intelligence (AI), and mining.

Discussions are underway regarding the possibility of making Canada the first "associate member" of the European Union. As part of this initiative, Canada is becoming a participant in programs such as the Erasmus student exchange program and the Galileo satellite navigation program. However, US President Trump and some European leaders have come out against this move.
