A high alert has been issued for low-lying areas in Assam and West Bengal following the bursting of a glacial lake in the Himalayan region of Bhutan. Anticipating a significant rise in water levels in transboundary rivers, authorities in both states have initiated emergency monitoring systems.

The lake that burst is the Shintafu Lake, located in the Gasa District of northwestern Bhutan.
