An unusual hiring policy at Sanxing Transportation, a company in southern China's Guangdong province, is currently attracting media attention. According to the South China Morning Post, the company has denied jobs to candidates born in the Year of the Dog in the Chinese zodiac. The company's reasoning behind this decision is that those born under this zodiac sign may bring misfortune to the company owner. The Year of the Dog is the 11th in a 12-year cycle of animals appearing in the Chinese zodiac associated with the Chinese calendar.
Sangxing Transportation's job advertisement for a clerk position offering a monthly salary between 3,000 - 4,000 yuan (approximately ₹ 35,140 and ₹ 46,853) states that anyone born in the Year of the Dog should not apply.
According to the South China Morning Post, this decision was made because the owner of the company is a person born under the Dragon zodiac sign. According to Chinese belief, those born in the year of the Dragon and those born in the year of the Dog do not get along. However, there are also major criticisms against this policy of the company.
